John comes from a rural Queensland family and has enjoyed a long love affair with teaching. He relishes fine words and moving ceremonies. He was registered as a celebrant in 1995. Since that time, he has conducted many ceremonies and shared his passion for literature with many aspiring celebrants as a former lecturer for the Monash Graduate Diploma course.

He is married to Judy Watt.
